Greed was the purpose for which they served up the false hope of peace and prosperity with the promise of tomorrow as today and much more abundant without any judgment or wrath.  

God promised in Amos 3:7 He would do nothing unless He revealed His secrets through His servants the prophets concerning judgment and wrath. This promise has stood the test of time from Noah’s day until the present as God faithfully has sent prophets with the message of future judgment and wrath.  

Jesus revealed the secrets concerning forthcoming wrath and warned His disciples to pray always they be counted worthy to escape what was coming upon the earth. Paul, James, John, Peter, Jude and the Gospel writers all warned of a future wrath being poured out upon the inhabitants of the earth. Before Christ came to usher in truth and grace John the Baptist warned Jesus’ first coming wouldn’t’ negate impending wrath as he thundered to the crowds “who hath warned you to flee the wrath to come?” (See article “Willing Ignorant”).  

God has not failed to warn every generation of the pending wrath because of His love for humanity.  God would have all men to be saved from His wrath and is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance. God warns of wrath to come because He is love. 

Today’s greedy self-centered modern-day gospel teachers have duped the church into believing the message of wrath is antiquated with the Old Covenant. They withstand those who warn of impending wrath labeling and ridiculing them as ignorant believers without the love of God. To put forth the assertion those who warn of wrath are without love is preposterous when one considers most of the writers of the Old Testament, every writer of the New Testament, and Jesus Christ the Son of God (who epitomizes the love of God) warned of wrath yet to come. Are we to believe these barking dogs were without the love of God as well?  

Oppositely, it is those whose only concern is for self who are without love and will not bark.  It is genuine love for those in danger, which incites God’s watchmen to begin to bark as they witness the dark ominous clouds of wrath upon the horizon! Thankfully, opposition to God’s messengers of impending wrath will not deter those who have been awaken by the rumblings of the distant thunder and been aroused by the love of God to incessantly bark until some are awakened and prepare themselves for the wrath yet to come!
